Bandwidth & Transfer Time
How long a transfer takes at a given link speed.
Ideal time at line rate = data size in bits / link speed in bits per second. Real transfers run slower: TCP/IP and framing overhead, latency, windowing and congestion typically leave 60-95% of line rate. Sizes use decimal units (1 GB = 1000 MB).
About this tool
Free bandwidth and data transfer time calculator. Enter a file or data size and a link speed to get the ideal transfer time at line rate, plus the total number of bits, with a note on real-world overhead. Handy for sizing backups, replication and large file copies. Everything runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to a server.
